Support and advice

We know that being in hospital or being ill or injured can be worrying and stressful. It’s also hard on the people that care about you – your family, carers and friends.

We aim to reduce anything we do that makes being unwell more difficult than it already needs to be. So if you, your family, or anyone around you needs help or support, we have a range of ways to help you.

Use the links on the left to find the help you need.

Our Patient Advice and Liaison Service exists to help you get the best from our services, so please do get in contact with them.

Ipswich and Colchester hospitals are tobacco-free sites.

We are committed to keeping our sites smoke-free and supporting people who want to quit smoking.

  • We have designated vaping areas on site.
  • We ask visitors to treat our staff and each other with respect if they ask them to stop smoking on site.
  • For advice on stopping smoking, please see the NHS website.

People have been leaving the hospital sites and smoking and littering cigarette butts on the site boundaries, and we are concerned about the effect this has on our neighbours.

For this reason, we have decided to install more bins and some smoking shelters on the perimeters of our sites. Inside the shelters we will be signposting to smoking cessation services.

Our smoking shelters will have social distancing information in place so smokers can stay two metres apart – although this limits the number of smokers using the shelters, the bins will be available for everyone.
