Wheelchairs at Colchester Hospital and Ipswich Hospital
If you are coming to Colchester or Ipswich for an appointment and think you may need to use a wheelchair, please remember to bring a £1 coin with you. You use the coin to release a wheelchair and get the coin back when you return the chair.
The coin-release wheelchairs were purchased in addition to our existing chairs in order to increase the number which are available. Their introduction means there will always be some available for patients and visitors to use, regardless of the time of day, as people will need to return the chairs to receive their money back.
Wheelchairs which do not have the coin-release mechanism are still available.
