Getting here

By bus

There are bus stops inside the hospital grounds, just outside the Garrett Anderson Centre (Emergency department) and on Woodbridge Road, near a pedestrian entrance to hospital grounds.

Routes 2, 5, 5E, 6 and 75 stop inside the hospital grounds. For bus timetables for these routes please visit the Ipswich Buses website.

Routes 63, 64, 65, 66 and the 800 Park and Ride bus stop on the Woodbridge Road entrance to the hospital. For bus timetables for these routes please visit the First website.

By community transport

Community transport schemes can help you to travel to the hospital. The services are for elderly and disabled people and for people in rural communities with no public transport.

By Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service (NEPTS)

NEPTS by car or ambulance is for patients whose physical or mental condition means that they are unable to travel in any other way and who require the skills of staff to support them during their journey.

By car or motorbike

Exit the A14 at junction 57 on to the A1189. Continue on the A1189 and follow the signs to the hospital.

You can get long stay parking tickets for 3 or 7 days. Ask your ward for an application form, which must be validated by a member of staff.  Take the completed form with your car registration number to South Reception (Entrance 2) or Maternity Reception (Entrance 8).

Parking for people with frequent appointments

Special tickets are available if you are attending for radiotherapy, cancer appointments, physiotherapy, kidney problems and phototherapy. Please ask the staff in your treatment area for details.

There are 24 dedicated car park spaces reserved for patients attending our cancer department for treatment. They are in car park K near to Entrance 15. The spaces are outlined in yellow.

Disabled drivers

Car parking is free for disabled drivers who have a Blue Badge. There are disabled parking spaces in each car park. Blue Badge holders may also park in non-disabled spaces.

Penalty charges

We understand that you cannot predict how long your appointment might take. If your appointment takes longer than you expected or if a clinic is running late, please talk to a member of clinic staff. If you receive a ticket you think is unfair, please appeal straight away.

The money that we make from car parking charges is reinvested in maintenance and improvements for the car parks and the provision of a security service.

Support for patients who claim benefits

If you are a patient on any of the following benefits you can claim back parking charges and get a mileage allowance:

  • Income Support
  • Income-related Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Pension Credit
  • Tax Credit Exemption Card
  • Income-related Employment & Support Allowance
  • HC2/HC3 Form.

Visitors on benefits cannot claim.

By train

Ipswich has two railway stations:

  • Ipswich Rail Station (IPS) is 4.7 miles from the hospital. The station has a taxi rank.  The 66 bus runs between the train station and the hospital.
  • Derby Road Rail Station (DBR) is 1.3 miles from the hospital. The station does not have a taxi rank.  The 6 bus runs from nearby Foxhall Road to the pedestrian entrance to hospital grounds opposite Adelaide Road.  From Derby Road Rail Station the hospital is a 20 minute walk via Foxhall Road and Pearson Road.
