Fadi Alfhaily

I have worked for the Trust since 2007. I specialise in urogynaecology, colposcopies, outpatient, ambulatory, gynaecology and maternal medicine. I trained in the East of England.


Djavid Alleemudder

I was appointed as a consultant at Ipswich Hospital in May 2015.
I graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2003 and became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2006. I completed a seven-year specialist training programme in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in January 2015.
My main area of interest is the investigation and management of infertile couples. I have spent more than three years gaining experience in the field of reproductive medicine and assisted conception in Salisbury and Southampton.
I have introduced a service for Fallopian tubal testing using ultrasound at Ipswich Hospital. I am working in close collaboration with Cambridge IVF to introduce assisted conception treatments to Ipswich Hospital including intrauterine insemination and satellite IVF.


Mamta Banerjee

I have worked as a consultant at the trust since January 2014. I specialise in general obstetrics and medical disorders in pregnancy.
Before this, I worked at Addenbrookes hospital as a locum consultant for 18 months.
I completed my MBBS and post graduate qualifications in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in India. I also trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the East of England deanery.


Joanna Cook

I have been a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Ipswich Hospital since January 2020.
My undergraduate and post-graduate training was in London. I completed my final year in the East of England. I completed a four-year PhD research training fellowship with the Parturition Research Group at Imperial College London and Queen Charlotte’s Hospital. I studied the epigenetic changes which predict preterm labour.
I am the lead consultant for Ipswich Preterm Prevention Clinic. In the clinic, I use cervical length ultrasound and biomarkers to assess women at increased risk of preterm birth. We are able to offer interventions to prolong the pregnancy.
I am also the lead consultant for acute gynaecology and early pregnancy. Every week I see and scan women with early pregnancy complications, in the Peggy Cole Emergency Gynaecology Unit.
I have completed my advanced training in obstetric medicine. I enjoy providing antenatal and intrapartum care for women with more complex medical conditions in pregnancy.

I have been a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Ipswich Hospital since 2016.
I am the lead obstetrician for the Perinatal Mental Health Service working jointly with the NSFT Perinatal Psychiatry Team.
I lead Vulnerable Women’s and Termination of Pregnancy Services including contraception, and have an interest in early pregnancy.

My areas of interest include management of fetal growth restriction, placental problems, prevention of preterm birth and multiple pregnancy.

I joined Ipswich hospital as Consultant Obstetrician in 2014. I provide care for women with Diabetes in pregnancy and pregnant women with medical disorders in pregnancy.
I also deliver the birth choices clinic to support women in making informed decisions regarding childbirth.
Emily Gelson

I was appointed as a consultant at Ipswich Hospital in January 2021.
I graduated from the University of Bristol in 2002. I was awarded a Doctorate of Medicine in 2013 by Imperial College London. I completed specialist training programme in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the east of England in May 2016. I was also accredited as a sub-specialist in reproductive medicine.
My main area of interests are subfertility, minimal access surgery and benign gynaecology. I am part of the Ipswich IVF team. I work in close collaboration with Cambridge IVF to introduce assisted conception treatments to Ipswich Hospital. These include intrauterine insemination and satellite IVF.

I started in my role as Consultant Gynaecologist and Obstetrician at Colchester Hospital in April 2019. I am also Gynaecology Oncology Lead.
I completed my basic medical training in India, with post-graduate degree in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. I completed further Obstetrics and Gynaecology speciality training in the East of England. I completed clinical fellowship in gynaecology oncology at the Christie Hospital in Manchester. I have a Bachelor of medicine / Bachelor of surgery (MBBS) degree, Master of Surgery (MS) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. I am a Member of Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG).
I look after women with confirmed and suspected gynaecological cancer. I am a trained laparoscopic and robotic surgeon.
I am a member of:
- BGCS (British Gynaecology Cancer Society)
- BIARGS (British and Irish Association of Robotic Gynaecological Surgeons)
I am an accredited robotic surgeon with the Society of European Robotic Gynaecologists (SERGS).
My other interests include travelling and reading.

I am a senior Consultant with a large referral pattern. I have previously been both a clinical director and college tutor.
I have a high percentage of patient satisfaction in surgical outcome audits and am both a clinical and educational supervisor of trainees.


Haroona Khalil

I have been a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the Ipswich Hospital since 2012.
My postgraduate training was in the East of England, before that I completed a research-based MSc in Australia.
I am an active member of many national and international organisations working for women’ health projects. I have commitments to medical education of post graduate trainees, and I am clinical supervisor of undergraduate medical students.
I have special interests in Diabetic Pregnancies Care, Colposcopy, PMB clinics, outpatient- hysteroscopies, minimal invasive surgery and menopausal disorders. I also support patients with pelvic pain, menstrual disorders, complex-benign-gynaecology, adolescent gynaecology, high-risk obstetrics and acute Gynaecology and Early Pregnancy management.
I am focused on organising local, regional and national teaching and training events. One of my passions is conducting studies and being lead in undertaking such project.

My special interests are Maternal Medicine, Vulval disease and ambulatory gynaecology.

I have worked at Ipswich Hospital since 1998 and am now one of the Hospitals Senior Consultants. I Qualified in 1985 from Kings College Hospital in London. My Post Graduate training was completed both in London and the East Anglia region.
I have previously been involved in hospital management and was the Clinical Director for Women’s and Child Health for 6 years.
I have served on various national committees related to my speciality and am a senior examiner for the RCOG for the Membership exams.
In addition to my clinical and educational roles I am a RCOG trained assessor for independent external reviews. I am also a medicolegal expert for clinical negligence cases related to Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

I have been a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist here in Colchester since 2002.
I trained as a doctor at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, London, qualifying in 1990 and then trained as an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in London and Essex.
As well as general gynaecology, I run a weekly vulval clinic caring for women with vulval skin problems and vulval pain. I also run a regular colposcopy clinic, caring for women with cervical problems and abnormal cervical screening tests.
In maternity, I work closely with the Daisy team of midwives, looking after women with complex needs including mental health problems.

- keyhole hysterectomy
- endometriosis
- pelvic pain

Rohit Sharma

I joined the Trust as a Consultant in January 2005. During the last 13 years I have served as College Tutor, Clinical Governance Lead and Clinical Departmental Lead.
I am the Lead Colposcopist. My main area of interest is minimal access (laparoscopic and hysteroscopic) surgery and Pelvic Pain/ Endometriosis.

I achieved an MBBS and a Master degree in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Myanmar in 1997. I then completed my Obstetrics and Gynaecology specialty training in East of England Deanery in 2012.
