Cycling to work

Covered cycle parking is available at:

  • Colchester Hospital
  • Ipswich Hospital
  • Primary Care Centre in Colchester

Staff can reach these locations through quiet and off-road cycling routes. So if you live nearby and are able to cycle, use the cycle route planner on the Cycling UK website to map your journey. (Opens in a new window)

We run weekly bike maintenance sessions at Colchester and Ipswich hospitals. More complex repairs cost a flat rate of £25 for Trust staff.

  • Colchester bike maintenance sessions
Wednesdays 10am to midday at the Main Entrance.
  • Ipswich bike maintenance sessions
Wednesdays 1pm to 3pm at the Main Entrance, South.

Information on bike discounts is available on our staff information pages.

Driving to work

Car parking at our acute hospitals uses an automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) system. It records your number plate as you enter and exit. This means no paper permits.

Please note that until you have a parking permit approved, you must not park in the staff car parks. You will receive a fine for parking without a valid car parking permit.

The permit process is priority-based. Staff with the highest priority for parking will receive a permit. If your permit application is declined, the Travel team can help you find alternative ways to get to work.

Your salary will determine the cost of your parking in staff car parks. This means colleagues who earn more, pay more.

The daily cost for a band 2, 3, and 4 members of staff is £1.50. For bands 5, 6, 7 members of staff and Residents it is £2. For all band 8A and above staff and Specialist Doctors it is £2.50.
