Children’s Diabetes

Children’s diabetes service at Ipswich Hospital

We help all children and young people with diabetes in Ipswich and the surrounding areas.

We educate and support our young patients and their families, from diagnosis through to transition when they are around 16.

We aim to give our patients and their families what they need to best manage their diabetes, now and in the future.

Our team includes doctors, nurses, dietitians and psychologists. They are supported by our administration team to provide a high quality and responsive service.

We see our children at least every three months in clinic. We will also visit them at home and school and call them on the phone.

We provide a 24-hour emergency telephone service, education sessions and social events.

We also educate other members of the community that have contact with children with diabetes, such as teachers and school staff.

We can show children how to us insulin pumps and glucose monitors. We encourage the use of these where appropriate to help with diabetes management.

We are always developing our knowledge so we can offer the most best and most up-to-date treatment options.
