Emergency medical advice about your child

If you cannot arrange to see your GP and are worried about your child, call 111.

If you feel it is an emergency, take your child directly to the Emergency department.

Who comes to the CAU/PAU at ESNEFT?

The CAU at Colchester Hospital and the PAU at Ipswich Hospital are emergency wards for children.

You will bring your child to us if:

  • they have seen your GP, community nurse or health visitor who has arranged for them to come in for urgent tests or treatment
  • they have been seen in Emergency Department (ED) and the doctor wants them to stay in hospital for treatment or  tests
  • we have given your child “open access” because of a health condition, which means they can come for urgent treatment or therapy whenever they need
  • we have given your child an appointment with us for a review following a stay in hospital.
