Who comes to the CAU/PAU?

The CAU at Colchester Hospital and the PAU at Ipswich Hospital are emergency wards for children.

You will bring your child to us if:

  • They have seen your GP, community nurse or health visitor who has arranged for them to come in for urgent tests or treatment
  • They have been seen in Emergency department (ED) and the doctor wants them to stay in hospital for treatment or  tests
  • We have given your child “open access” because of a health condition, which means they can come for urgent treatment or therapy whenever they need
  • We have given your child an appointment with us for a review following a stay in hospital
