Cancelling or changing an appointment
It is very important that you let us know in advance if you need to cancel or change an appointment. If you let us know in time, we can rebook your appointment and let someone else have your original slot. This helps us to reduce waiting times.
Please note: If you fail to attend an appointment without warning us in advance, then in line with Hospital policy we will discharge you from the Service. All future appointments or procedures you have booked with the Pain Clinic will be cancelled.
If you want to change or cancel your first appointment with us, please call the Ipswich Hospital Call Centre on 0845 8400 200.
If you want to change or cancel a follow-up appointment, please contact the Chronic Pain Management Service reception desk directly on 01473 703 436. You can either speak directly to one of our receptionists, or leave a message on the answering machine. If you leave a message, please state clearly:
- your full name;
- your date of birth;
- your hospital number (if you know it); and
- the date and time of the appointment you want to cancel or change.
Tell us whether you would like to cancel and/or change your appointment. If you want to rebook it, we will write to you to offer you another appointment.

Pain management service
We help patients manage acute pain (this is pain which starts suddenly, we usually know what has caused the pain and we know how long it will last).
We also work with patients who experience long-lasting pain. This is chronic pain.
The aim of our services is to help people to cope with and manage their pain as best they can, so they can limit the impact of pain on their life as much as possible.
For information about pain management, please visit the NHS website.
