Joint inflammation
Joint inflammation service at ESNEFT
We help patients with many rheumatic conditions. These include:
- tendonitis (inflammation of a tendon)
- osteoarthritis
- rheumatoid arthritis
- gout
- polymyalgia
There are over 200 forms of rheumatic disease. Over nine million people in the UK have some form of arthritis.
We work with other medical teams to support our patients. These include podiatry, orthotics, nutrition, orthopaedics and respiratory medicine (chest clinic).

Colchester Hospital rheumatology service
The ESNEFT rheumatology team at Colchester includes five consultant rheumatologists, three specialist rheumatology nurses and two extended scope physiotherapists. We treat patients with conditions across the breadth of rheumatology including inflammatory arthritis, vasculitis, connective tissue disease and osteoporosis.

Rheumatology advice line
All patients attending the Rheumatology Department at Ipswich Hospital can use the rheumatology advice line. Call us if you have concerns about your condition or treatment. Health professionals also use this service to access specialist advice.
The advice line is staffed by specialist nurse practitioners. The service runs Monday to Friday. We aim to return calls within two working days. An answerphone is in use at busy times. Please give the patient’s full name, hospital number and a contact telephone number, as well as a brief outline of the reason for calling.
Please note that this service is not available at weekends or on bank holidays and there will be a delay in responding to messages left at these times.
