Bleeding in early pregnancy
We appreciate that bleeding in early pregnancy can be a very anxious time.
If you are experiencing bleeding, contact one of the following:
- your GP
- your community midwife
- Out of Hours GP service
If the bleeding is very heavy or you cannot manage your pain, please attend the Emergency Department (A&E) at Colchester Hospital or Ipswich Hospital.

Your GP, community midwife or the Out of Hours service will refer you to Ipswich Hospital:
- The Emergency Gynaecology Assessment Unit
or
- The gynaecology doctor on call at the hospital
Early Gynae Assessment Unit
The unit sees referred patients from Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm.
