Patient app for people with Parkinson’s wins award

A phone app for patients with Parkinson’s disease has won a Health Service Journal award.

ESNEFT patients have been able to use the app as a pilot project during the last year.

The technology remotely measures voice, walking, balance, reaction time, finger dexterity and speed, rest tremor and postural tremor.

The app is a pilot project and has been developed by Neu Health, supported by ESNEFT’s Innovation Team, Health Innovation East and NHS Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care Board (SNEE ICB) to introduce the app to patients.

The app was awarded the HSJ Digitising Patient Care Award and Sheeba Suresh, Parkinson’s advanced clinical practitioner at ESNEFT, was at the HSJ awards ceremony.

She said: “This is an example of people and teams coming together to make things happen for patients.

“Technologies like this are the future and we need to make the most of these advancements in patient care.

“Neu Health has been exceptional through the whole process, listening to feedback and making amendments to the app. It’s been a great resource for patients and an easy thing to introduce.”
