An app that puts people in control of their own healthcare is being used by more than 100,000 patients receiving care and treatment at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT).
MyChart allows patients at Colchester and Ipswich hospitals to securely access parts of their health records via their mobile phone, tablet or computer.

Information on the app is available in real time. Patients only need to input their details once, no matter how many clinicians or departments they see.
Patients can register for the app using their mobile phone, tablet or computer. They will soon be able to benefit from seeing the information contained on MyChart on the NHS app, too.
ESNEFT’s Managing Director Mike Meers said: “I attended a hospital referral in Ipswich rheumatology this week at short notice – it was confirmed a day before.
“There was no need for a confirmation letter, and I was able to check in and complete pre-visit and allergy and drugs questionnaires on the app before I arrived at the clinic.
“By the time I was back in my office I had received my letter, confirmation of diagnostics required and my follow-up appointment all on the app.
“The following day, nine out of 12 diagnostic results were already back with me.”

At the end of last year, ESNEFT recorded the highest number of MyChart touchless in-patient appointments in the UK. This is when a patient uses the app to check in, complete their personal information and fill-in pre-appointment questionnaires, without using a self-service kiosk or speaking to a receptionist.
This month, to date, the Trust has recorded 40.2% self-check-ins using the app.
MyChart is part of the Trust’s new Electronic Patient Record system, EpicEPR, and has been linked to a reduction in missed appointments across the UK.
Patients using MyChart have a 2% lower did not attend, or DNA, rate than those who do not use the app.
