Secondary school children and members of the public will be given the chance to learn basic lifesaving skills, at Colchester Rugby Club, on Thursday 16 October.
As part of national Restart a Heart Day, resuscitation teams from East Suffolk and North Essex (NHS) Foundation Trust (ESNEFT), which runs Colchester and Ipswich hospitals and several community sites, will be teaching basic CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation).
The sessions, run in partnership with Laerdal Medical, will be open to secondary schools between 9am and 4pm and the public from 4pm until 7pm.
Emma Thomson, Head of Resuscitation Service at ESNEFT, said: “Our aim is to teach vital life-saving CPR and defibrillation skills to as many schoolchildren and members of the public as we can, on one day.
“Early CPR and defibrillation can more than double the chances of survival from an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.
“Each year, in the UK alone, 40,000 people have an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, eight in 10 cardiac arrests happen at home, and only one in 10 people survive an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest
Multiple classes will be run every hour, and group bookings are encouraged.
