Join the festive fun as the Santa Fun Run returns

People are being invited to help spread festive cheer this December by signing up for Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity’s Santa Fun Run.

The annual event gives participants of all ages and abilities the opportunity to join a sea of red and white and run, walk or jog a 5km or 3km route around Colchester’s Castle Park – all while dressed as Santa.

As well as giving family and friends the chance to get into the holiday spirit, the run also raises vital funds for patients, staff and volunteers at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT). Participants can support any ESNEFT hospital, ward, department or appeal, including the cancer wellbeing centre, children’s department, stroke unit or any other area which is close to their heart.

Among those taking part will be Colchester Hospital’s maternity team (pictured below), who are donning their Santa costumes to raise money for their department.

Kerri Nicoll, specialist perinatal mental health midwife, said: “We want to fund a variety of items to support our patients. This includes creating a lavender pathway, which will protect sleep hygiene for our patients who are at a high risk of postnatal depression psychosis, and providing essential baby equipment for our vulnerable patients.”

Cait Pilkington, events manager with Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity, said: “Whether you’re a seasoned runner or just looking for a fun way to get into the holiday spirit, the Santa Fun Run is the perfect event for everyone.

“This jolly event promises to be filled with laughter, joy, and a whole lot of red and white! So grab your friends, family and colleagues, and get ready to make this year’s Santa Fun Run the most memorable one yet!”

The Santa Fun Run takes place on Sunday 3 December starting at 10am. Anyone who books their place during October will receive a 10% early bird discount.
