Family firm’s generosity buys new equipment for oncology unit

Extra equipment which makes it easier to find the veins of patients who are being treated for cancer is now in place at Ipswich Hospital thanks to the generosity of a local business.

Whip Street Motors Ltd, which is a regular supporter of Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity, has donated £4,125 for an extra vein finder for use in the Woolverstone Wing, which is the hospital’s oncology unit.

The equipment will help staff to locate veins below the skin, in turn making it easier to take blood samples or give treatments.

Charlie Baker, who is one of four brothers at the family firm, said: “The oncology unit is very close to our hearts as we have many friends and customers who have been treated there.

“We are committed to helping the local community and like to regularly give to the hospital as we know the difference this makes.”

Sandra Gosney, community fundraising manager for the charity, said: “We would like to thank Whip Street Motors Ltd for their continued support.

“Having an additional vein finder is fantastic for our staff and will make such a difference to the experience our patients have during treatments and procedures.”

More information and how to support the charity is on the Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity website.
