NHS Chief Executive Amanda Pritchard visited Ipswich Hospital on Friday to meet teams and officially open the new Breast Care Centre.
The centre opened to patients earlier this year and the modern environment and equipment has transformed patient experience.
Amanda met staff and fundraisers who helped the Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity’s Blossom Appeal for the new centre. She also ‘planted’ the first metal bloom in the centre’s garden.
She said: “This centre is extraordinary and it’s a privilege to look round. The focus on it being the absolute best for patients comes through every detail in the design….it’s the best of the NHS.”
During the visit, Amanda also visited the new Children’s Department, the upgraded Eye Clinic and the Radiology Department.
