Asking smokers to help us be good neighbours

Thank you to everyone who comes to our hospitals and respects the ‘smoke free’ policy.

We know that this has meant that people are leaving the hospital sites and smoking and littering cigarette butts on the site boundaries, and we are concerned about the effect this has on our neighbours.

For this reason, we have decided to install more bins and some smoking shelters on the perimeters of our sites. Inside the shelters we will be signposting to smoking cessation services.

These will be in place on the Ipswich Hospital site next month, and at Colchester Hospital in the coming weeks.

Our smoking shelters will have social distancing information in place so smokers can stay two metres apart – although this limits the number of smokers using the shelters, the bins will be available for everyone.

We are committed to keeping our sites smoke-free and supporting people who want to quit smoking.
