Putting children’s health in the spotlight

An expert in child health who played a key role in turning the dream of creating a new Children’s Centre at Ipswich Hospital into a reality will explain more about the project and the difference it is making at a meeting next month.

Consultant paediatrician Dr Lauren Filby will give the major clinical presentation at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust’s (ESNEFT) Annual Members’ Meeting (AMM), which takes place in Kesgrave.

During the meeting, she will talk about her team’s vision for the project, which was to transform the department into a modern, child-friendly environment which better meets the needs of patients and families.

Dr Filby will also explain how plans for the multi-million pound centre were developed in partnership with children, families and carers, as well as discussing the difference it has made since it officially opened at the start of this year.

“We are incredibly proud of our new-look children’s department, which has transformed a dated, cramped area into a bright and welcoming space which matches the gold standard of care our teams provide,” said Dr Filby.

“I am looking forward to explaining more about this hugely exciting project at the meeting and would encourage anyone with an interest in healthcare to come along and find out more.”

People who attend the meeting will also be able to browse exhibitions about the work of Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity and ESNEFT’s research and development team, while also finding out more about the steps staff are taking to tackle health inequalities.

ESNEFT will also showcase the benefits of MyChart, its new electronic patient information system, as well as encouraging people to get involved in local healthcare by becoming a member of the foundation trust. This year’s annual report and accounts will also be presented at the AMM.

The meeting takes place at Kesgrave Community Centre on Wednesday 12 November at 2.30pm. Anyone who would like to attend should email hello@esneft.nhs.uk by 12 noon on Monday 10 November.
