People living in Tendring will be able to apply for one of 100 new apprenticeships being created in the area.
The apprenticeships are being offered across a range of organisations, from healthcare providers, social care, retail, finance, construction and admin. They’ll be across local businesses and other organisations in the Tendring area.
The programme will support employers to recruit local apprentices. It will also work with local people to understand whether an apprenticeship is right for them and support them to apply for local opportunities. Employers interested in offering one of the apprenticeships are being encouraged to contact the team for more information.
The ‘Tendring 100’ apprenticeships are being set up as a partnership between East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT), Colchester Institute, and Healthwatch Essex. It’s a match-funded project between ESNEFT and Essex County Council, and is supported by Tendring District Council and its apprenticeship service Career Track.
Colchester Institute and Career Track will deliver the training and are open for people to apply for places now.
Pete Cook, associate director of innovation and education
Pete Cook is the associate director of innovation and education at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust. He said: “Apprenticeships are a recognised qualification offering people the opportunity to gain new skills and create a route into employment. We know developing skills and working also supports people’s health and lifestyles.
“Working in partnership with local training providers and stakeholders we want to support residents to improve their own lives through employment and skills, leading to better health outcomes for them and their families, and in turn helping to support the local economy.”
There are financial incentives for local employers who take on one of the apprentices and at least 10 of the apprenticeships will be based within primary care supporting local GPs in Tendring.
Pete added: “We’re really keen to hear from employers who are interested in employing an apprentice in their organisation. Every employer who employs an apprentice will be supported with £2,000 over the course of their training. This can be used to cover recruitment costs, additional training, equipment and their salary. In addition to that, all the costs of the training providers will be met by ESNEFT through its Apprenticeship Levy, meaning that those costs will not be borne by the employer.
“There are no age restrictions to those interested. Anyone living in Tendring can apply and the apprentice can be any age. We welcome returners to work, those displaced through COVID or people looking to retrain.”
Gina Placey, Tendring District Council Cabinet Member for Partnerships, welcomed the funding announcement.
“This is brilliant news for our district, teaching vital skills and raising aspirations for people to gain careers in a number of sectors through the use of apprenticeships,” Councillor Placey said.
“It will also bolster the important work carried out in Tendring by a range of partners to improve people’s quality of life, recognising that simply having a job and ongoing career development is, in itself, a positive impact on health and wellbeing.”
The apprenticeship programme is part of a wider programme across the county called Essex 200.
Healthwatch Essex will deliver a project evaluation during the two-year scheme.
The apprenticeships are now open and people living in Tendring can apply by emailing PHAB@esneft.nhs.uk.
Businesses or individuals interested in supporting an apprenticeship on the scheme can also PHAB@esneft.nhs.uk
