Waiting for your child’s assessment

Rising demand for assessments

There has been a significant rise in demand for Community Paediatric referrals in the last few years, and unfortunately it has impacted on an increased wait time to be seen in a first appointment and then to subsequently be assessed for ASD or ADHD.

Currently some of our children are waiting up to 62 weeks to be seen for a first appointment and then subsequently waiting up to a further 52 weeks for an ASD or ADHD assessment and outcome of diagnosis.

We apologise for the delay, we are doing all we can to reduce the waiting time as quickly as possible. We will keep this website updated regularly as we work to reduce this wait time.

You will receive a letter saying your child’s name is on a waiting list once your child’s referral has been accepted. We see all our referrals in strict referral date order.

Please avoid contacting us to ask about waiting times as our administration team will not be able to give you any further information.

Please contact the admin team if you change your address, telephone number or GP, on 01206 745 977.

Telephoning the service to ask about waiting times

Many parents contact us to ask if their child can be seen sooner or when their child will be seen.

We cannot indicate when a child will be seen as the assessments of children ahead of those on a waiting list may take longer than expected.

Administrators, not clinicians will therefore not be able to answer questions.

My child has waited longer than stated in their acceptance letter

During the year the waiting time does vary. This variation may be because we have had a number of very complex children to assess and their assessment has taken much longer than we expected.
