General Surgery (Colorectal Surgery)
Ipswich Hospital
As a specialist colorectal surgeon, I have a strong professional background. After excelling in my initial training in India, I secured a top position in the state for entrance into the higher surgical training program. In the UK, I completed higher surgical training through the Cambridge higher surgical training scheme. I earned my CCT in 2015.
I achieved recognition on the pan-European stage by topping the Board of Coloproctology examinations, receiving the prestigious ‘Lars Pahlman award’ in 2016.
I am one of the few specialist colorectal surgeons in the UK with a Coloproctology degree and extensive advanced training. I have fellowships in keyhole and ‘Cytoreductive surgery’ at renowned centres in Basingstoke and Christie Hospital, Manchester.
I specialise in providing personalised cancer care services for colonic and rectal cancers.
I am a proponent of robotic precision surgery. I undertake highly advanced and complex robotic procedures such as:
- lateral pelvic lymph node clearances
- para-aortic node clearance
- complete mesocolic excisions for colorectal cancer
I offer laparoscopic management for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) – Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s disease. The treatments I offer include pouch surgery. I perform various rectopexy techniques to address pelvic floor disorders. Since September 2022, we have been performing daycase robotic bowel cancer surgery for suitable patients.
My expertise extends to the management of abdominal wall hernias and gallbladder issues.
I am the first ESNEFT surgeon accredited as a Bowel Cancer Screening Practitioner Colonoscopist by the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG-JAG). With over 10,000 performed colonoscopies, I achieve completion rates nearing 100% and polyp detection rates of 85% (BCSP-NED audit 6/2023). I also offer large therapeutic polypectomies. I am a colonoscopy trainer for higher surgical trainees and registrars. I hold JAG accreditation for upper GI endoscopies.
Beyond my clinical work, I contribute to medical education as an honorary clinical tutor. I am a tutor at the University of Edinburgh, where I teach postgraduate doctors and supervise research projects leading to master’s in surgery. I am also a tutor at the University of East Anglia for their MS program in Coloproctology. I have a clinical interest in the use of AI in surgery. I have two research dissertations which included one of polyp cancers. I was awarded ‘chief residency’ in 2014 by EOE School of Surgery. This led to completion of a one year course in healthcare and leadership at world famous Judge Business School, University of Cambridge.
Outside medicine, I enjoy hiking, trekking, travel, cricket, music, and socialising.
