Sign up now for our Hospital Hero Hike!

Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity has launched a new event for 2022.

This is an exciting opportunity that we are inviting the public to get involved with to support their local NHS hospitals. The Hospital Hero Hike will take place on Sunday 1 May and is a 21-mile challenge walk from Colchester Hospital to Ipswich Hospital.

Colleagues at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Colchester and Ipswich hospitals and community services in north east Essex and east Suffolk, are being invited to join the event free of charge so this is a fantastic opportunity for the public to walk side-by-side with local NHS staff to show their support and to fundraise for whatever department means the most to them.

The on and off-road route will take in some beautiful countryside and is a great opportunity to explore the local area, while getting fit out in the fresh air too.

The hike was the brainchild of sisters Ali Beckett and Sharon Ward. They both work at Ipswich Hospital and love walking and the great outdoors.

Sharon, who is a neonatal nurse at Ipswich Hospital, said: “After the success of a previous team charitable walk, we recognised the benefits for health and wellbeing for everyone. This time, we thought it would be a good idea to do it on a larger scale to get more people involved while raising funds for our hospitals.”

Ali said: “Our aim is to get as many people as possible out in the fresh air, having fun, raising money and getting fit along the way.”

The event is open to everyone aged 14 and above. When you register you will get a full training plan to help you prepare for the walk, along with a free t-shirt and medal on the day.
