Ipswich Hospital loop road to reopen after improvements

The loop road at the south end of the Ipswich Hospital site, near the main entrance (south) and the Garrett Anderson Centre, is due to reopen next week (week beginning Monday 2 October).

Drop-off and pick-up zones for patients will again be available directly outside the Emergency Department and Garrett Anderson Centre, and close to the main entrance (south).

There’s also a new drop-off / pick up area close to the entrance of the Orthopaedic and Fracture clinic, which opened this summer. This is signposted as cars come onto site.

Drivers are asked to note that the loop road traffic will again be one-way, but the flow of traffic will be in the opposite direction to what it was before the closure (anti-clockwise round the loop, rather than the previous clockwise).

The road and some surrounding pedestrian areas were closed in May to allow for important road works ready for the opening next year of a new multi-million pound Accident and Emergency (A&E) department, Urgent Treatment Centre and new operating theatres.

The works have widened the road, improved pedestrian access and installed better lighting in the area. Buses will be returning to the site in the coming weeks.

We apologise for the inconvenience and thank everyone for their patience while we build a better hospital.
