Celebrate with us at this year’s Welly Walk

Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity is inviting families to sign up to stomp their way round Jimmy’s Farm and Wildlife Park and help make this year’s Welly Walk its biggest yet.

The fourth and final walk will give families the chance to explore a rewarding and fun-packed 5km trail before enjoying free entry to the wildlife park and rare breeds farm, where they will get the chance to see more than 100 different species of animal.

Participants will also get free admission to a family fun day taking place on site, which will include a range of attractions, stalls and entertainment, as well as the chance to watch hospital teams battle it out during a tug of war.

This year’s event takes place on Saturday 13 July. It will double as a celebration of the end of the Children’s Appeal and the transformation the children’s department at Ipswich Hospital, which is due for completion this summer.

Jimmy Doherty (pictured below), ambassador of the Children’s Appeal, said: “It’s our absolute pleasure to host the Welly Walk for a fourth and final year in support of the Children’s Appeal.

“The Welly Walk is the perfect way to bring your family together and enjoy the outdoors whilst supporting a really worthwhile project. We’re excited to make year’s walk the biggest yet so that we can truly celebrate the incredible transformation of the children’s department.

“We look forward to welcoming walkers into the park afterwards so that they can enjoy an opportunity like no other to visit our farm. See you in July!”

The Children’s Appeal is raising money towards the multi-million pound redevelopment of Ipswich’s children’s department. Work to transform the ward areas and create further inpatient spaces, a school room and the new children’s assessment unit is almost complete, and will further improve the experience young patients and their families have when receiving care.

Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity will use money raised through the Welly Walk to help fund equipment for the new play spaces to help keep young patients entertained during their admission.

Kate Stockton, children’s matron at Ipswich Hospital, said: “We are really looking forward to the Welly Walk and having the opportunity to thank all of our supporters. My team do outstanding work every day, but our facilities were tired and no longer fit for purpose. It’s so important to have child-friendly surroundings for young people and their families, which is why we wanted a modern, light and more homely environment.

“I would encourage everyone to join us at the Welly Walk and help end the Children’s Appeal with a big celebration!”
