Service Information

Myeloma

Myeloma service at ESNEFT

Myeloma is a bone marrow cancer.

If you have been diagnosed with myeloma, we will arrange for a haematology consultant to see you at Colchester or Ipswich hospital.  There will also be a myeloma specialist nurse at your appointment.

MDT meetings

A number of healthcare professionals will attend a multi-disciplinary meeting (MDT) to discuss your treatment options. All the healthcare professionals who attend the MDT specialise in myeloma:

  • haematologists
  • consultants
  • radiologists
  • histopathologists (health scientists who look at and test your cancer in a laboratory)
  • nurse specialists
  • clinical teams from other specialist treatment centres
  • clinical trials team

As your treatment progresses, there may be further MDT meetings to assess your progress and revise your treatment plan.  Your consultant and nurse specialist will keep you fully informed.

Myeloma treatment closer to home

If you are having treatment for myeloma you may have the option to have your treatment at locations closer to your home. The consultant and specialist nurse will discuss this with you.
