What is Myeloma?
Myeloma is a bone marrow cancer.

If you have been diagnosed with myeloma, we will arrange for a haematology consultant to see you at Colchester or Ipswich hospital. There will also be a myeloma specialist nurse at your appointment.
MDT meetings
Your treatment options will be discussed by a number of healthcare professionals together at a multi-disciplinary meeting (MDT). All the healthcare professionals at the MDT specialise in myeloma. The professionals who attend MDTs are:
- haematologists
- consultants
- radiologists
- histopathologists (health scientists who look at and test your cancer in a laboratory)
- nurse specialists
- clinical teams from other specialist treatment centres
- clinical trials team
As your treatment progresses, there may be futher MDT meetings to assess your progress and revise your treatment plan. Your consultant and nurse specialist will keep you fully informed.
If you are having treatment for myeloma you may have the option to have your treatment at locations closer to your home; the consultant and specialist nurse will discuss this with you.
