Rushmere day unit

 

Specialty: Medical

This is a nurse-led unit and we treat patients from all specialties.

The unit has 15 treatment areas – a bay with 8 recliner chairs specifically used for giving infusions and a 7 bed area used for procedures.

Regular infusions given on Rushmere are:

  • Infliximab
  • immunoglobulins
  • blood products
  • rituximab
  • Tocilizumab
  • Abatacept
  • Zolendronic acid
  • iron infusions

Some of the procedures undertaken on the unit are:

  • biopsies
  • chest drains
  • PICC line insertions
  • paracentesis
  • lumbar punctures
  • transesophageal echocardiograms
  • venesections

The unit is also the base for the OPAT team (Outpatient Parenteral Antibiotic Team) and the PICC service (Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters).

Meal times:

Sandwiches and light refreshments are available for patients at the times below.  Please bring in your own snacks for other times of the day.

  • Lunch: 12pm
  • Dinner: 5pm

Hot drinks are available.  These are provided by the Rushmere charitable fund – donations to the fund are appreciated but not compulsory.

Visitors:

One adult visitor is welcome to accompany you during your time on Rushmere.  However, we appreciate that in some circumstances you may need more than one person with you.  Please discuss your specific requirements with staff before you attend.
