Main entrance and retail area

The main entrance and retail area at Ipswich Hospital is changing. The big builds project is to create a more welcoming and spacious entrance. The works team are designing the entrance to be close to most of the hospital’s wards.

You may see some changes if you visit in early July as building work begins. The south reception entrance will be closed off, as will the surrounding outside area and the shopping area inside.

However, the south reception desk will still be accessible for patients and visitors approaching from the south ward corridor. The out of hours entrance/exit will also remain open.

In terms of transport, the bus stops will not be affected but the bike racks by this entrance will be unavailable. The works team apologise for the inconvenience and ask visitors and staff to use bike racks elsewhere on the site that remain available.

Visitors and staff are also asked to note that some parking spaces and electric charge points in the area will also be unavailable whilst building work takes place.

A mobile ‘Coffeelink’ van will be located close to the temporary entrance as the south entrance Costa will be closed. Central outpatients shops and the Courtyard restaurant remain open as usual. A selection of new shops will also be announced soon.

The new main entrance will open in the autumn allowing the Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) and Emergency Department (ED) developments to begin.
