Elective Orthopaedic Centre (EOC)

Elective Orthopaedic Centre (EOC)

We are building a state-of-the-art Elective Orthopaedic Centre at Colchester Hospital. The centre will be for patients having planned surgery on bones, joints and muscles. This will be for the surgical stage of the patient’s treatment and their pre and post-operative care will still take place at their closest hospital. The EOC will help reduce the risk of theatre cancellations.

The project team are currently engaging with the Colchester and Ipswich Hospital staff about how best to deliver care to our patients in the EOC for the next twenty years. The EOC will have two wards and six theatres with the ability to expand as demand requires. There will also be support services located in the centre including therapies and radiology.

The EOC will be built where the Mary Barron Suite is currently located, next to the Elmstead Day Unit.

Building works will begin in early 2022 and the EOC will open in 2023.
