Help us to help you

Thank you for choosing to be cared for at our hospitals and services.

These are unprecedented times and we wanted to share with you what we are doing to keep you and our communities safe.

We are continuing to plan the care of our patients who need urgent and essential treatment. We are reviewing the plans we made with our patients waiting for surgery and are working hard to offer new dates to everyone whose operation is urgent.

There will be lots of help and advice from us about what to do to prepare for your treatment.

We are doing everything we can to make our hospitals and services safe and clean. This includes extra cleaning in all areas. It also involves having specific and dedicated areas in all our services which are known as ‘green areas’. These are places where no-one being cared for with COVID-19 has been treated. We are also very clear about the importance of social distancing – this means staying at least two metres away from one another.

We will only bring you into hospital for a test or to see a specialist when a face to face meeting is needed. Wherever possible, we will carry out virtual appointments so that you do not have to leave your home and come to the hospital. These will be by telephone, or by video link.

We know that some of our patients waiting for treatment have been advised by the Government to shield at home. If your health requires you to attend the hospital for an urgent consultation, test or treatment during your shielding period you may still feel anxious about coming in. We will do everything to protect you from the risk of exposure to Covid-19.

If you are worried about keeping your appointment, or feel that your operation is not urgent, please ring the number on the letter we sent you so that we can help you or cancel the appointment if necessary.
