A message from Helen Taylor

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Non-Executive Director at our Trust

As Chair of East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT) I lead a friendly, open and supportive Board of very talented and hugely committed Executive and Non-Executive Directors and we are looking for a new member of the team.

This is a really exciting time to consider a Non-Executive role within our organisation. Our vision is to offer the best care and experience for patients and the communities we serve almost one million people living in Suffolk and north east Essex. We have made significant progress to deliver this vision with an ambitious strategy delivered in the five years since the Trust was established in July 2018.

Our Board has a very strong commitment to reflect the diverse community we work with and serve so that together we can make sure the views of everyone are heard and are well represented. Women are currently under-represented amongst the Non-Executive Directors and I would like to strongly encourage those whose life experience and insights are not heard often enough at Board level to apply to join us.

More than 100 nationalities make up Team ESNEFT. We are determined to make life better for all our communities and have a strong focus on addressing health inequalities and bringing equity and opportunity for all. We have a multi-million investment programme at our Trust including a new elective orthopaedic centre at Colchester Hospital, due to open in 2024, a new emergency department, urgent treatment centre, breast centre, children’s department, additional theatres at Ipswich Hospital, and our Clacton community diagnostic centre, to name just a few. The landscape in which we work is constantly changing, both in terms of how our services are provided, and how NHS services are managed.

Partnership, collaboration in finding common purpose and shared objectives with all our partners is key to the way in which the Board works. Our commitment to working in partnership is widely acknowledged with all our partners across the Suffolk and North Essex Integrated Care System. This approach means we can support each other and take learning and innovation from every aspect of all of our work.

If you would like to help us shape and deliver our strategic vision, and can commit to an average of 3-4 days a month for a mixture of in person and virtual meetings, we look forward to hearing from you. If you would like to discuss the role, please contact If you would like to discuss the role, please contact the Executive Assistant to the Chair and Deputy Chair, Lorna Fraser.

With my best wishes.
