Become a Non-Executive Director at ESNEFT

Innovative, compassionate, caring – our ambition is to deliver the best care for our communities

Are you ready to make a difference and join our Board?

ESNEFT Research Department

We are East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT), one of the largest NHS trusts in the country. We provide healthcare to almost a million people – not only from our two acute hospital sites, but also from a number of community settings, including six community hospitals, high street clinics, surgeries and in people’s homes.

We have a £1 billion budget and employ over 12,000 dedicated and caring staff.

The Trust is run by a Board of Directors which has overall responsibility for everything we do. It is made up of Executive and a majority of Non-Executive Directors, who provide an independent check on how well the Trust runs.

We now have an opportunity to join our Board as a Non-Executive Director (NED). We are keen to hear from those with experience of leading change through significant organisational transformation, particularly those that are technology-led. We are seeking a patient-oriented viewpoint with a commitment to the patients and communities that we serve, and the experience of working in partnership with other organisations to support delivery of high quality services within limited resources.

A diverse Board is stronger and makes better decisions, drawing on a wider range of experiences. This helps to improve the access and health outcomes for patients and communities and supports our aim to become a more inclusive employer by making full use of the talents of our diverse staff. ESNEFT is committed to delivering our Trust-wide leadership programme, which focusses on developing capacity and capability and promotes compassion and cultural awareness. Our staff survey has informed us that our staff from ethnic minority backgrounds have a less positive experience at work than their white colleagues. Our Equality, Inclusion and Diversity strategy, combined with our leadership programme, is key to improving both career progression and the lived experience of our ethnic minority staff.

The successful candidate will provide expert support to the Board and will contribute to a range of Board committees. The role represents an excellent opportunity to join a well-regarded and high- performing organisation, with a clear trajectory of ambition.

We can offer both challenge and support, along with a highly-expert and motivated group of colleagues at every level. The culture is highly respectful, appreciative and accountable, and we have an agile approach to decision-making. We are striving to build a Board that reflects the full range of diversity. We would expect the successful applicant not only to promote compassionate leadership across the organisation but also to contribute to our inclusion strategy, and we very warmly encourage applications from all those whose life experience and insights are not heard often enough at Board level.

If you would like to discuss this opportunity with the Chair or Deputy Chair, please contact their Executive Assistant, Lorna Fraser.

Shortlisted candidates will be offered a meeting with the Trust Chair prior to the selection process.

Alternative formats for supporting information can be requested at your initial contact.
