Robert running London Marathon to help save lives

An Ipswich Hospital nurse is using his London Marathon run to teach people how to save a life.

Robert Fiddy, a cardiology clinical nurse specialist for chest pain and arrhythmia, is also a St John Ambulance volunteer youth leader for the East region.

Along with five other volunteers, Robert will carry a mannequin on a stretcher around the 26.2 mile course and will be demonstrating life-saving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to the public at each mile checkpoint.

Robert said:

We are not concentrating on our time. It is more about finishing, raising awareness of the St John Ambulance, and teaching people CPR.

Also on the team are Robert’s wife Tracy, a former nurse in the Emergency Assessment Unit at Ipswich Hospital and Craig Hosking, another former Ipswich colleague who worked as a healthcare assistant on Kirton Ward.

Robert said:

I am nervous but I am looking forward to it. I don’t do marathons, but it should be good fun.

Matt Harrington-Keaton, Emily Whyte and Gemma Aldridge make up the team (all pictured).
