Patients recovering from critical illness in Ipswich are to be helped back to health by people that were once seriously unwell themselves.
Clinical staff at Ipswich Hospital have set up an ICUSteps group and are looking for former intensive care patients to join them and talk to recovering patients and their loved ones, as well as share their own experiences.
The group will meet monthly at Bluebird Lodge in Ipswich with the first event taking place on Wednesday, 10 October from 6pm to 8pm.
Critical Care junior sister Tamasin King, said:
The creation of this new group is a fantastic opportunity for our recovering patients and is an exciting step forward for our critical care unit.
We aim to consistently deliver the best care and this is an innovative group that reflects this.
ICUsteps was founded in 2005 by ex-patients, their relatives and ICU staff to support patients and their families through the long road to recovery from critical illness.
It is the only support group for people who have been affected by critical illness and has helped many former patients, their relatives and medical staff from organisations around the world.
