Honouring those who lost their lives this Remembrance Sunday

Patients, visitors and staff at Ipswich and Colchester hospitals will be given the opportunity to honour those who have given their lives for their country during several special events taking place to mark Remembrance Sunday.

Chaplains will conduct an act of remembrance in Ipswich Hospital’s multi-faith garden today (9 November) at 10.50am, before a wreath is laid and a bugler from the hospital band plays the Last Post.

At 10am on Sunday, Hospital Radio Ipswich will air a new documentary produced exclusively for the station, which shares the stories of local veterans and features memorable sounds from the First and Second World Wars.

The start of the national service of remembrance at the Cenotaph in London will then be broadcast before hospital radio stations in Ipswich and Colchester come together to give patients and staff the chance to listen a local service live from the Chapel at Colchester.

Finally, the Seven Aviation Support Battalion from Wattisham will attend a Service of Remembrance at Ipswich Hospital’s Washbrook Ward on Sunday between 10am and 12pm, and will take part in a two minute silence at 11am.

The commemorations come after East Suffolk and North East Essex NHS Foundation Trust was accredited as ‘Veteran Aware’ in recognition of the steps it takes to ensure the needs of patients who have served in the UK armed forces are met.
