Can I volunteer?

Important information

In order to volunteer you must fit the following criteria:

  • Minimum age – there is a restriction of 16 years of age for volunteer roles. There may be other role-specific age restrictions in some departments
  • Commitment – we require a regular, weekly minimum commitment for six months
  • Right to work – you must have the right to work in the UK and be able to demonstrate this
  • Flexible – you will need to be flexible about your placement at times of increased pressure
  • Registered volunteer – you will be required to complete the volunteer registration process
  • Attend training days – there are mandatory training updates which all volunteers are required to complete

In return for your time and commitment we offer you:

  • A chance to broaden your horizons
  • The prospect of meeting new people and making new friends
  • Annual training
  • Confidence building, rewarding experiences
  • The opportunity to serve your community
  • Annual celebration events

Volunteering will give you experience of daily life in a hospital environment – great if you are contemplating a career in healthcare.  However, volunteering is very different to work experience or shadowing clinicians.

Before you apply please check the volunteer roles section so you can decide if volunteering meets your requirements.
