Winter Ward Support volunteers

  • Our winter ward support volunteer role has been developed to support our in-patient wards and emergency department during winter and Coronavirus (COVID-19) pressures
  • The new volunteer team will initially operate Monday to Friday 10.00am -7.00pm, for shifts of 3 hours (10.00am – 1.00pm, 1.00pm – 4.00pm, 4.00pm – 7.00pm)
  • Volunteer teams will report to the site operations teams at the start of their shifts – they will prioritise wards with the highest needs
  • Volunteers will support mealtimes, make beds and be on hand to free up the time of nursing and healthcare support staff
  • Volunteers will also be on hand to offer companionship whether sitting, chatting, playing a game of cards, getting them a drink, a blanket or helping to phone their loved ones to update them
  • They also help support staff in simple tasks such as telephoning patients relatives, filing or run errands, this may mean collecting medication for a patient or escorting them to where they need to go next.
  • Minimum age for applications is 17 years old

Rapid Response Support Volunteer

  • The rapid response support volunteer is a new role developed to help support our in-patient wards and emergency department at short notice during winter and Coronavirus (COVID-19) pressures
  • You can sign up to be a rapid response support volunteer for any day of the week or for a 3 hour shift on weekdays but may not be required depending on patient and staff numbers – volunteers are contactable by staff when assistance is needed
  • Changes in how we work, has meant that patients are not permitted to have their loved ones, family and friends with them
  • Many of our patients, especially the elderly and vulnerable, will be feeling very alone and isolated while in our hospitals
  • Our on-call volunteers may be requested at short notice on the days agreed to support mealtimes, make beds or offer companionship whether sitting, chatting, playing a game of cards, getting them a drink, a blanket or helping to phone their loved ones to update them. Coronavirus vaccine volunteer opportunities

We are looking for volunteers from across Essex and Suffolk to lead our fight against Coronavirus (COVID-19) – you could be part of it!

Working with NHS colleagues across the two counties, we are gearing up in the next few weeks to be ready to deliver a Coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination programme.

We are now seeking great volunteers to work as stewards.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to join us and play your part in protecting the community and saving lives.

Local vaccination centres will be open from 8.00am – 8.00pm, 7 days a week. We are looking for people to start as soon as to enable the local vaccination centres to be ready from 1 December 2020 to March 2021.

There are opportunities to work flexible hours, with a minimum commitment of four-hour shifts. At this stage, we are looking for people to work until March 2021.
