The Ipswich Inflammatory Spinal Group was established in October 2005 and is a small friendly group of people who have different conditions such as Ankylosing Spondylitis, Spondyloarthropathy and Psoriatic Arthritis. These all have similar effects and all benefit from similar treatment.
We meet on Wednesday evenings at 6.30 pm in the Physiotherapy gym in the Rheumatology department at the Ipswich Hospital.
Each week we have physiotherapist led exercise and hydrotherapy tailored to our needs. As we all have different abilities in terms of exercise there is never any pressure to do more than you are able.
The evening is split into two sessions – pool and gym with a half time break for a cup of tea or coffee and a chat. We finish at 8.00 pm
When there are more requests than there are places in the Hydrotherapy session, we have a rota system.
Ideally, you will need to be referred to the group by either your Consultant, Physiotherapist or your GP to ensure that your specific condition fits with the role of the group and the type of exercises that we do.
However, you can come along on a Wednesday evening and introduce yourself to one of the staff, or alternatively get in touch with Peter Collicott (077474 95661 or firstname.lastname@example.org) who will be happy to chat to you and give you any further details you may require.
The group is self financing so there is a £20.00 annual fee and £5.00 cost for each session but people can come as little or often as they like.
