Free event to offer support to people living with cancer

People living with and beyond cancer will be able to access support and information at a free event in Colchester next month organised by East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT).

The Living With and Beyond Cancer Health and Wellbeing Workshop on Monday, 25 March is aimed at cancer patients, and carers, who have either completed their treatment or who are on long term maintenance therapy or surveillance.

It has been organised as part of the Macmillan Survivorship Project at Colchester Hospital and will be held in the Layer Suite at the home of Colchester United, the JobServe Community Stadium, from 9.30am to 3pm.

Sarah Orr, lead cancer nurse at ESNEFT, which runs Colchester Hospital, said:

This workshop will allow people to interact with others in the same situation, as well as learn about self-management during and after their cancer treatment. These health and wellbeing events have been well received nationally and it is great that people in the communities we serve now have access to this resource.

Workshops and talks on the day will shine a light on the services which are available for ongoing support, including the Macmillan Cancer Information Centre, covering topics such as nutrition and healthy eating, activity and emotional wellbeing tips to help manage and cope with side effects, symptoms and recovery.

A number of organisations will also be running information stands and will be able to share resources which support cancer recovery with attendees.

Morven Angus, Macmillan Survivorship Lead at the hospital, said:

This looks to be a great event and I’m sure so many people living with and beyond cancer would benefit enormously from it.
