ESNEFT Chair appointed

Helen Taylor has been appointed Chair of the East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust. Her appointment was announced by Michael Horley, lead governor of the Trust’s Council of Governors at Thursday’s board meeting in public.

Helen has been the Interim Chair of the Trust for the past five months and took over from David White who is now Chair of the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Helen joined the Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust Board three years ago and was reappointed to the new East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust last year as Deputy Chair and Non-Executive Director.

Helen joined the NHS as a student nurse and worked as a nurse and midwife before moving into social care. She is a former director of adult social care and has also worked as a national policy adviser with the Audit Commission.

Helen said: “I am delighted to have been appointed. I feel so strongly about this organisation and am very positive about the future. We have a strong board, a really clear strategy and I am confident that we will deliver together the best possible care to the people we serve.”

Mr Horley described how the appointment of a Trust Chair in a foundation trust hospital is the responsibility of the Council of Governors. The rigorous appointment process included stakeholder meetings, presentations and panel interview for the shortlisted candidates. He told the Board meeting, “Helen stood out as an exemplar candidate.”

Helen takes up her appointment immediately.
