Addison’s support group set to meet

People with Addison’s disease are being invited to find out more about expert help which will help them manage their illness by attending the next meeting of the North East Essex Support Group.

The group will meet in the outpatients department on the first floor of Clacton Hospital on Wednesday 14 November from 6pm until 8pm.

The informal session is open to anyone whose life is affected by Addison’s, including patients, families, friends and carers. During the meeting, Dr Charles Bodmer, consultant endocrinologist with East Suffolk and North Essex Foundation Trust (ESNEFT) will talk about sick day rules, as well as answering any questions that people may have.

Addison’s disease, which is also known as primary adrenal insufficiency or hypoadrenalism, is a rare disorder of the adrenal glands which affects an estimated 300 people in north east Essex. Most common between the ages of 30 and 50, it causes symptoms such as fatigue, muscle weakness, low mood, loss of appetite and unintentional weight loss and increased thirst.

For more information about the meeting, contact Angela Barron on 01255 201622. Refreshments will be provided, while anyone who attends can park at the hospital for free.
