If your GP requests that you have your bloods taken, please contact your GP practice to book an appointment for a blood test there.

Patients for the following tests need to make an appointment rather than attending walk-in:

  • Glucose Tolerance Tests (GTT)
  • Sweat tests
  • Cryoglobulin

For children up to the age of 6, appointments for blood tests must be made with the Children’s Day Unit with a referral from the GP. Children up to the age of 12 may also use this service.

Blood tests

Blood tests have a wide range of uses and are one of the most common types of medical test. Taking the blood sample is also called phlebotomy – you might find this term used in some of our services.

A blood test can be used to:

  • assess your general state of health
  • check if you have an infection
  • see how well certain organs, such as the liver and kidneys, are working
  • screen for certain genetic conditions

Booking appointments

For more information about blood tests, or to book a blood test online please visit the ESNEFT pathology website.
